The City Girls rapid rise to success has been somewhat of an anomaly thus far. The Miami rap duo has been gaining constant acclaim for their bodacious, braggadocious, empowering, playful raps, after only rapping for about a year. In one short year, the City Girls are receiving more success than some vertarns who have been rapping for 5-10 years. In their new documentary Point Blank Period, they explain how they did it.

The 22 minute documentary is a collaborative effort between the City Girl’s label, Quality Control, and Mass Appeal. The documentary explores the origins of the group’s career, and their road to one member’s prison sentence. Caresha Brownlee (Yung Miami) and  Jativia Johnson (JT) deal with the joy of success and deal with the pain of knowing JT would have to turn herself in to prison soon. The Miami native pled guilty to fraud charges, and will do 2 years behind bars.

The film also explores how the City Girls linked up with hiphop icon Drake. Actually, it was more like Drake linked up with them. The City Girls had developed a buzz so big, that it caught the ear of the Toronto rapper. Huge moments like working with Drake have not been few and far between for the duo either. Yung Miami and JT also prepare for the BET awards in Point Blank Period.
